In The Diversity Delusion, Heather Mac Donald paints a dreadful picture of higher education. Her case studies frequently involve prestigious institutions, where political correctness runs amok and lunatics are now in charge.
Rather than educating young minds, provosts and deans, department heads and professors, seem to think parents are forking over $50,000 a year in tuition so that their offspring can be turned into social activists.
Go ahead, take a peek at Yale’s website. Its School of Nursing integrates “education, scholarship, practice and policy in service of social justice and health equity” (my italics).
Its School of Medicine has a Committee for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. It also talks about “speaking truth to power,” supports “student advocacy for social justice,” and engages in “actionable dialogue on key issues of social justice.”
The mission of Yale’s School of Public Health is to “understand and improve health equity and social justice.”
The School of Art has a new initiative focused on social justice.
Yale’s St. Thomas More Chapel connects students with “social justice related community experiences.”
Its Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Student Life offers social justice programming.
We’re told that Dean Risë Nelson champions “student wellness and social justice efforts,” and that another dean, appointed in July 2017, has an “unwavering commitment to matters of equity and social justice.”
Then there’s Dwight Hall, home to Yale’s Center for Public Service and Social Justice. Its mission is to “nurture and inspire students as leaders of social change.”
We believe, says the Dwight Hall website, “in the transformative power of service, social justice, and social action for all who engage in them” (my italics).
Wow. Just wow.
