BIG PICTURE: Conditions on this 4.5-billion-year-old planet have never been static. They’re continually evolving, always changing. The last Ice Age was 20,000 years ago. Most of Canada and much of the US was covered by ice. That ice melted. All on its own.
Climate changed a great deal between the end of the Ice Age and the appearance of the ancient Egyptians 5,000 years ago. It continued to change afterward – particularly during the Little Ice Age (1500-1850).
Change is what climate does. Insisting that ‘climate change is real’ is like insisting that blood is red.
TOP TAKEAWAY: Ordinary people have busy lives. It isn’t surprising when they utter an opinion as unsophisticated as ‘climate change is real.’ But when government ministers and presidential candidates do so, they display a remarkably shallow grasp of this important issue.
