Three weeks from today, a UN climate summit will begin. Political leaders will pose with the Eiffel Tower and tell the folks back home they’re urgently saving the planet. What heroes!

In the real world, ISIS is executing gays, brutalizing women, persecuting religious minorities, and destroying antiquities. Yet during the upcoming Paris pantomime, our leaders will declare climate change – which is unlikely to become worrisome for decades – their top priority.

In the real world, millions of impoverished children die every year from malnutrition and preventable disease. But while visiting Paris our leaders will insist that a hypothetical problem their grandkids could face in middle age is the world’s most pressing concern.

We really have lost our minds.
